Asterisks & Anomalies

Educational and research site of academic research articles related to the fantastical, from sci-fi to fantasy, from conspiracies to cryptozoology, from horror to action/adventure.

We are interested in any media these research forms may address: from novels and short stories to poems, from social media to fanfiction, from films to streaming serials, from tabletop games to video games.

Asterisks & Anomalies' on the other hand sections summarize and cite larger works, giving readers quick insight into new ideas and developments in the fantastical, providing inpsiration for research.

Thomas is currently an archaeologist at Argonne National Laboratory and an alumnus of Eastern Florida State College where he attended the 2013, 2014, and 2024 PCA/ACA National Conferences in Washington D.C. and Chicago, Illinois respectively. Thomas received his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Florida State University and his Master’s degree in Ancient Middle Eastern Archaeology from the University of Chicago. He has academic interests in a variety of subjects, most recently the examination of modern fiction from the perspective of ancient myths.

Outside of academics, Thomas is the co-host of the movie game podcast "So, What Happens Next" and is a co-creator for Tom’n’Nateor Pictures. Both projects involve deeper examination of film and television and the characters within them to entertain and potentially educate.
