Batcher

A Girl's Best Friend

29 April 2024

Season 3, episodes 4 and 5, Crosshair seeks to earn his old companions trust and succeeds by fighting a "big monster." Apart from the obvious tension between Crosshair and Hunter, the underlying story is between Batcher and Omega, as Batcher becomes the constant companion Omega has never had. Batcher was LH-201, the smallest breed of the Lucra hounds kept in cages in the Mount Tantiss imperial complex where Crosshair and Omega escaped from. Omega healed a wound Batcher sustained and then she freed him, and upon their escape, Batcher accompanied them on their escape. By episode 5, Batcher has become much more than just a pet but a genuine member of the Bad Batch, helping Hunter and Wrecker dig and accompanying Crosshair in saving Hunter. But the most important relationship Batcher forms is with Omega. Previously Omega's only attachment was with inanimate objects, like the Tooka Doll she made in episode 1. Now she has a loyal companion and receives unconditional love from Batcher, just like any young boy or girl with a dog or pet. This connection helps to strengthen Omega, but also leaves her vulnerable should Batcher meet an unfortunate demise. By episode 5, Batcher has become the 4th person on the Bad Batch squad, not replacing Tech, but filling a necessary role of companionship for Omega and the Squad.
